How Music Works

It can be quite difficult to break down something as vast as music and make it understandable to a wide variety of people. I've always found it to be an undertaking trying to find a place to start with it. It's therefore always exciting to stumble across a program like "How Music Works" which not only manages to entertain but to educate, and educate well. It's a four episode series with each focusing on a different aspect of music: melody, rhythm, harmony and bass. Presenter Howard Goodall is an award-winning British composer and TV personality who does a fabulous job with the program. His passion for music is quite apparent and makes an already informative experience even more memorable. All of the episodes are on YouTube and below is part 1 of episode 1:

Wow, I just watched part 1 and you're right, this is a great breakdown of music. It's such a complex and historically rich subject that it can be overwhelming to try and understand it, but this program is a solid intro. Cheers
